Many call the playoffs the second season or the real season. In Lincoln County, this is what we live for. Time to lace'em up and win the games that count the most.
In Class A's first round action, most eyes seem to be on Twin City Friday night when Hawkinsville tries to remind upstart ECI who the big dogs are. ECI has one of the most potent offenses in the state, averaging nearly 45 points per game with a 35-point scoring differential. Hawkinsville has struggled at times this year, going 7-3 and finishing 4th in 2-A with its debatable subregion system. The winner of this game will be a favorite to reach the quarterfinals in Lincoln County's bracket.
The winner between Trion and Lincoln County will play the winner of Friday's Eagle's Landing Christian (ELCA) vs. Jefferson contest. ELCA's Chargers are 9-1, including wins over 4-A champ Brookstone and 7-A champ Bremen. Jefferson is 5-4-1, losing badly to Bremen and barely to Commerce, Warren County, and Athens Academy.
Warren County and Bowdon will meet Saturday at 7 in Thomson; combined the teams are 11-9, but seven of those nine losses came against playoff teams. This is Bowdon's worst season in 20 years, while Warren is excelling under its new coach. Hancock Central travels to Chickamauga to play Gordon Lee. Wilkinson County visits Bremen.
Wilcox County will visit Savannah Country Day in what should be a close game. Atkinson County visits Brookstone. Terrell County visits Pacelli in Columbus.
In games that may finish lopsided, Clinch County hosts Taylor County, Landmark Christian hosts Social Circle, Portal at Johnson County, Fellowship Christian at Athens Academy, Chattahoochee County at Seminole County, Whitefield Academy at Commerce, and Bryan County at Turner County.
