Twiggs County nixed a so-far lackluster season with a 28-15 win over Warren County Friday night. Both schools, along with Hancock Central, are expected to contend with our Devils for Region 7-A playoff spots.
The Cobras will travel to Sparta next Friday to take on the Hancock Central Bulldogs. Hancock defeated Monticello 33-20 Friday, and is now 2-1-1 so far in 2006.
In the other 7-A game Friday, Wilkinson County whitewashed GMC 35-0. Wilkinson may also contend for a 7-A playoff berth.
Around the state in Class A, #1 Bowdon fell to Class AA and undefeated Heard County 37-27. Hawkinsville edged Johnson County 24-20 in a game between ranked teams from 2-A. Wilcox County, so far the surprise of Class A, continued to roll in Region 2 with a 41-6 win over Wheeler County.
Clinch County reminded 1-A opponent Lanier County that the Panthers still ruled south Georgia with a 35-0 beating.
ECI again put up impressive numbers with a 54-0 whipping of Jenkins County. In 5 games, the Bulldogs from Twin City have scored 256 points, or an average of more than 51 per game. Their defense also claims two shutouts.
