As usual, Lincoln County Red Devil basketball teams get a later start than most high school teams because of the Devils' run deep into the football playoffs. All four LCHS teams will start play December 11 against Elbert County. Girls coach Mark Flowers provided the following preview of the 2004-05 Red Devil basketball teams.
GIRLS - Loss of 4 seniors last year has left the girls team a little on the young side. Three of the starters are sophomores, with one junior and one senior. One starter, Coppeta Elam, started some as a freshman last year and should have an impact this year. Our senior center Sable Davis should be the anchor of the team that will be "a very energetic group of girls." "Baby Steps" is what we will try to take this year.
BOYS- Coach [Levern] Hickman has a lot of shoes to fill this year. When the team finished last season, the future looked bright. But a year later, and a few lost players later, Coach Hickman finds himself with a very young team. Luckily, he can rely on a few returning seniors, including Cordarryl Coppin and C.J. Norman to help at the guard positions. Jarius Wynn and Dontai Parks, along with Junior Shawntavious Jennings, should help the Devils start out strong. Look for a few sophomores, Brandon Barden and Jatheus Jones, to get some early playing time down low.

The varsity teams will also travel Monday to Evans and take on the Knights. Saturday games start at 2:00 for the JV and 5:00 for the Varsity.
