Devils Prepare for 7-A Battle with AA

October 08, 2001

Lincoln County is almost finished with the Top 4 part of their tough schedule.

While their record is a very rare (for LCHS) 1-4, the Devils have shown improvement in recent weeks. But this week will be very tough. Lincoln must play Athens Academy at the Spartan's one-sided stadium in Oconee County. Their one and only visit there ended badly in 1999 as AA fooled the officials into calling a roughing the kicker call on a field goal attempt, moving the Spartans into Billy Bennett territory for a last second win. Bennett now kicks for that college team based in Athens.

And Athens Academy has, by all accounts, their best team ever. They proved that last Friday as they walloped defending Class A champion Commerce 34-0. These are the same Tigers that edged Lincoln 13-12 two weeks ago. AA's only blemish is a 17-14 loss to Greater Atlanta Christian, a Top 5 team in Class AA.

Spartan QB Joe Tereshinski is one of the tops in the nation, and has already committed to UGA. His primary wide receiver David Allen is also a top prospect in the state.
