Playoffs Taking Shape

November 03, 2001

In other Region 7-A action Friday night, Social Circle surprised Warren County 21-14 to put the Redskins in the playoff picture . Athens Academy whipped Aquinas 42-21.

7-A Playoff Picture: AA will win the 7-A title and be the #1 seed, hosting the loser of next week's Wesleyan/Jefferson game. If LC defeats Warren County next week, Lincoln will finish second and host the winner of Wesleyan/Jefferson November 23; GMC will finish third and travel to Buford/Commerce loser, and Social Circle will be fourth and travel to Buford/Commerce winner. If LC loses to Warren, Warren will be second, Lincoln third, and GMC fourth. This assumes AA beats Social Circle.

Elsewhere in Georgia Class A, Pelham upset Clinch County in Region 1. Pelham plays Atkinson County next Friday, as the top 3 seeds in 1-A will be among those 3 teams. In Region 4, Wilcox County upset Hawkinsville 24-14 to setup a 3-way tie; it looks like Johnson Co. will be the top seed, followed by Wilcox and then Hawkinsville. In the other big game, Claxton beat McIntosh County Academy to lock up Region 3.

And for our neighbors in Wilkes County, Putnam County upset Washington-Wilkes 17-14 to win Region 7-AA. This looks to setup a possible showdown between W-W and Americus in the third round of the playoffs; Americus defeated W-W in the AA finals.
