The 2010 Class A playoff bracket is set, but some teams are not where most expected them to be.
Wilkinson County's 26-14 win over Lincoln County, an upset in many minds, puts our Devils in a tough seed where they will face 9-1 Pace Academy in the first round, and probably 9-1 Darlington in the second round. If the Devils survive that, the third round will be either Mitchell County, Charlton, County, Savannah Christian, or Hawkinsville.
Wilkinson County will host Holy Innocents. A win will have the Warriors hosting the winner of Bremen vs. Commerce.
ELCA upset Wesleyan to take the top spot in 5-A. It will host 4-6 Washington-Wilkes. Warren County will visit Wesleyan, where the Wolves are certain to be in a bad mood after their 35-27 loss to ELCA. Warren edged Aquinas 33-27 to end the Irish's season and put W-W in the playoffs.
Clinch County looks to be the team to beat this season after they pounded Charlton County 33-7 to take the 2-A crown and remain undefeated. The Panthers will host Greenville in the first round.
Darlington pounded Gordon Lee 45-13 to wrap up 6-A, and had scouts in Lincolnton Friday night. The Tigers' sole loss was to Cartersville 28-23 early in the season; Cartersville finished 9-1 in 7-AAA.
Mt. Paran surprised Bowdon 34-27 to keep the Western Red Devils from the playoffs; they finished with a 4-6 mark.
Previously undefeated Marion County lost to Dooly County 14-9 in tight 4-A, but kept the top seed. Three teams ended tied for second with 8-2 records, with Hawkinsville winning the tie-breaker for 2nd followed by Dooly County and Greenville. Charlton County, with its 3rd seed in 2-A, visits Hawkinsville in the first round, while Dooly County has to travel to Rochelle to take on tough Wilcox County.
Johnson County won 3-A and hosts Terrell County in the opening round, and with a win will host the Wilcox-Dooly winner.
