Lincoln County must play a very good Aquinas team Friday night in Augusta. Kickoff is set for 7:30.
Only a single play has kept the Irish from having a perfect season to this point. On September 24 Aquinas lost to Wilkinson County in Irwinton 13-7. Excluding that game, they have averaged over 45 points per game. They were ranked in the Top 10 prior to the loss.
The only common opponent so far has been Hancock Central, which the Irish pounded 40-14. Our Devils whipped Hancock 48-0.
The Irish are going all-out for this game, which may be their best chance to defeat our Red Devils in nearly 40 years. Thursday night the Irish are having a "light the flame" bonfire. Friday night they have called for a "Green Out" at the game.
The Aquinas offense has one of the top offenses in Class A based on points scored. It will hit head-on with the Devil defense, which is one of the top defenses in Class A based on points allowed.
Aquinas's last win over Lincoln County was in 1972, when the Irish walloped the first-year Larry Campbell team 45-0. The Red Devils need a win to setup a Region 7-A title showdown with Wilkinson County in the regular season finale in two weeks.
