Probably the biggest surprise in Class A this past Friday night was ECI's 32-31 win over previously-unbeaten Johnson County. That gives ECI the best shot at the top spot in the 3-A Region Playoff set for November 6.
Savannah Christian continues to be the best team in 3-A, as Savannah Country Day found out at its Homecoming last Friday when the visitors scored 35 in the second quarter enroute to a 55-17 drubbing of the Hornets. This was after SCD took a 7-0 lead early in the second. [Click for game story]
The other surprising score was the size of Twiggs County's win over Hawkinsville: 39-0. Twiggs is now the front-runner for the 2-A crown, with Wilcox County (a 48-12 loser to Twiggs 4 weeks ago) and Hawkinsville to decide second place this coming week in Rochelle.
Some were thinking that Commerce had a chance to upset top-ranked Wesleyan, and the game was headed that direction at the half with the Tigers up 3-0. But the Wolves came out howling for the third quarter and scored 28 unanswered points. [Click here for game story]
In other action involving 7-A schools, Warren County defeated Hancock Central 32-22. Our Devils will make their first visit to the new gridiron in Sparta this coming Friday. Wilkinson County whipped Aquinas 39-17.
