New Head Coaches Highlight Region 7-A in 2009

May 16, 2009

Four Red Devil opponents will have new head coaches for the 2009 gridiron campaign.

As many in Lincolnton already know, Washington-Wilkes did not renew Russell Morgan's contract as the head football man. Lee Hutto leaves Warren County has after 3 seasons to return to the Tigers, where he was an assistant from 1997 to 1999.

Marleau Blount, Warren County graduate and longtime assistant coach, was promoted from offensive coordinator to head coach for the Screaming Devils.

At Aquinas, Matt LeZotte has replaced Bill Tenore. LeZotte was the star quarterback on James Madison's I-AA national championship team in 2004 and has been at Aquinas since 2005. He played at Westside of Augusta.

Charlie Winslette is returning to Greene County as the Tigers head coach. Coach Winslette was an assistant at a Macon school last year after being the head coach at Gatewood for several years. He previously coached at what was then Greene-Taliaferro from 1989 to 1993. He has won 68% of his games over a 31-year career, including a state title at West Rome in 1985.

Georgia Military, a frequent Devil opponent in the past, also got a new head signal-caller with Brad Owns getting his first top job.
