While Lincoln County knows it will host a Class A football game next Friday, most teams will not know their fate until the final whistle blows Friday night.
Our Devils will host the #4 seed from Region 8-A in the first round. If Commerce defeats Prince Avenue Christian, Social Circle will be making the trek east to Buddy Bufford Field. If Social Circle upsets Athens Academy and Commerce loses, then the Tigers will make their second visit to The Bud this season.
Wesleyan, a private school in Norcross, has won 8-A and will probably host Warren County. A win by Athens Academy gives the Spartans 2nd in 8-A and a home game against Washington-Wilkes. If Aquinas upsets the W-W Tigers Friday, then Warren and W-W would reverse travel sites.
Two huge games highlight the last regular season night in Class A. In 6-A, undefeated Bowdon travels to Bremen to take on their arch-rival and decide the top 2 playoff spots. Darlington, Gordon Lee, and Trion are fighting for the last 2 spots.
The other big game is way, way, way down south when Miller County takes on always-powerful Clinch County. Miller is having its best season since 1997, when the Pirates sails were brought down by a bunch of Red Devils in the quarterfinals in the "Thriller in Miller."
Wilcox County has secured the 2-A title and top playoff spot. Hawkinsville has a very tough battle against Turner County (second in 2-A) in order to grab a playoff seed. Otherwise, Twiggs County and Dooly County will decide the 3rd and 4th spots among themselves. A loss by those other Red Devils will give Hawkinsville back-to-back 3-7 seasons.
In Region 5, Whitefield Academy and Eagles Landing Christian Academy, both 8-1, will decide the top 2 spots. If our Devils should win in the first round, they could host the #2 team from 5-A in the second round.
