The Young Devils played well against the Harlem Bulldogs under extreme weather conditions last Thursday in Lincolnton to earn a 29-7 win. The Junior Varsity hosts Evans this Thursday at 5:30 in an effort to close-out a perfect 6-0 season.
Because of heavy rain, the game was played under a running clock. Our Devils chose to receive on the opening kickoff but were unable to move the pigskin and gave the Bullpuppies the ball on downs.
After stopping Harlem, Darrien Gladmon broke loose for 67 yards and the Devils' first touchdown of the game. The Devil D halted the Bulldogs deep in their own territory. On third and long the Bulldog QB slipped in the end zone to give the Devils a safety.
Following the resulting kick, our Devils drove down the field. Allen Crite ran the ball really well considering the poor conditions. Garrett Mohr threw a 7-yard TD pass to Rusty Scott in the endzone for the second score.
After some exchanges of possessions, Mohr found TYler Banks for the third touchdown to give our youngsters a 22-0 halftime lead.
The Devil Defense again stopped the Puppies on their opening series of the second half to force a punt. Denzel Gunby made them pay with a punt return of 65 yards for a touchdown. Many of the reserves got into the game and played well. The Bulldogs did score late in the 4th quarter against the Devil substitutes.
